Yorkshire Art Loop - a game of visual Chinese whispers
The Gallery at West Yorkshire Print Workshop is proud to announce its new exhibition ‘Yorkshire Art Loop’ which runs until the 28th January. This wonderful collaborative art project ‘Yorkshire Art Loop’ features the work of 33 artists who have participated in this project that brings together the WYVAN group of artists and organisations working across West Yorkshire.
The project began when the Barnsley Bard Ian Mcmillan wrote a poem, just for the project. The poem was called ‘Apple Dream’ and was presented to a large group of artists and makers in April 2011.
The 33 artists who took part formed three groups who then formed three lists. The first person on each list had the poem secretly revealed to them, they went away and made the first piece of artwork in response to the poem, this was then sent to the next person on the list, creating a sort of art Chinese whispers. Only the first person on each list got to see the poem.
The result? It created a large collection of artwork by artists and organisations within the WYVAN group, these included The Art House in Wakefield, West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield, Pop Up art space (Fabric) in Bradford, Loca in Kirklees, and East Street Arts in Leeds. These organisations are all part of WYVAN – West Yorkshire Visual Arts Network.
If you'd like to see the final artwork you can visit The Gallery where WYPW are based on Huddersfield Road, Mirfield. The building is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10.30am to 5.00pm and on Saturdays 10.30am to 4.00pm.
