Painted from the Page Exhibition
The Old Post Office in Burslem will be exhibiting the works of local artists, Lindsey Cotterill, Emily Rowan Edwards, Rachel Bradley, Charles Goddard, Lee Holland and Daniel Knowles until the 26th of March, with their collaborative exhibition, 'Painted from the Page'
Using various media, the artists celebrate visual interpretations of the written word. Each artist has documented their favourite novel, poem or song, written their own piece or simply created works investigating the magic of imagination.
The artists have all grown up in Stoke-on-Trent or the surrounding area, and although they are each making their way in the world, branching out to university and other adventures, they have not forgotten the importance of our heritage.
The artists tell Creative Boom, "We each know the importance that creativity has played in the area in the past and are keen to be a part in its regeneration of the city."
The above mixed media canvas piece, 'Progression in Time' by Rachel Bradley, was inspired by Paul Johnson's book, 'The Vanishing Landscape'.
Rachel tells Creative Boom, "The Vanishing Landscape is an autobiographical account, based upon the development of the Staffordshire landscape, industry and attitude. It comments upon the decline of industry and the growth of modern business. Within the piece ‘Progression through time’ I reflect upon dwindling existence of the largely transformed landscape."
