No Cold Turkey Needed for Vintage Junkies as Fair comes to Birmingham
Last week saw hordes of people queuing down Digbeth high street as eager style junkies waited in-line for the latest Vintage Fair to open its doors at the Old Library, one of Birmingham’s most historic event venues.
Now in its third year, the appropriately titled ‘The Vintage Fair’ boasts over 40 stalls of vintage clothing, accessories, jewellery, artwork and crafts from all over the country with many traders coming from Birmingham.
Originally intended as a one off event in Sheffield, the fair saw phenomenal demand for its wares with 1,400 people attending the first event in 2008. Birmingham however was the busiest event organisers have ever seen with 1,600 people attending the March event.
Louise Whitehead organiser of The Vintage Fair said: “We were blown away by the success of our latest event in Birmingham. Who knew that there were so many vintage enthusiasts in the region.
“In late 2009 we decided to take the fairs on the road with our first out of town event being held in Manchester back in October, the success of which brought us to Birmingham for the first time in November.
“When we choose a vintage fair venue we take a few things into consideration, mainly space and light. I knew I wanted to book The Old Library as soon as I viewed it. The grand architecture and huge windows provide a perfect light setting for a shopping environment.
“It’s a beautiful building with lots of old character that I knew would work really well. We hold four fairs a year in each city usually seasonally. The next Birmingham fair will be 12 June.
Emily Righton, Events Manager for The Old Library said: “The Vintage Fair was a fantastic day out for families. The stands catered for every taste possible whether you liked jewellery, artwork or even miniature models.
“When we opened the doors I couldn’t believe my eyes at the queue of people; it went right the way down Digbeth High Street. We’ve held lots of fairs at the Old Library before but never have we seen such demand.
“The event ran so well, the organisers have already booked another date with us in June. No doubt we shall see even more spectacular products on sale”.
Due to phenomenal success, The Vintage Fair is looking to expand its events into a further three major city’s across the UK.
