Posted by Stina Jones in Features on Friday 26th March 2010. Tagged with Featured, Dub.

Eva Lazarus is a vocalist from Staffordshire, who is making a name for herself across the UK and Europe with her Bristol based band, Dub Mafia. With a sound that is described as, "Best played loud!" Dub Mafia are set to take the music scene by storm in 2010.

We caught up with Eva to chat about her recent projects.

How did the Dub Mafia project come about?

I was playing a night at The Croft with my other collective (Project 13) when I met Andrew (the Dub Mafia Drummer) and we decided to hook up at some point and jam with the band he was in at the time...months later we got round to having that jam, it went really well...6 months later here we are!

Our internet download and music videos have been very well received. When we uploaded our videos to YouTube, they were ranked higher than Coldplay and Janet Jackson, we were so shocked! Its great to see that people all over the world are really into what we are doing!!

Loads of great stuff has happened in a very short amount of time, we are very lucky!

We're currently finishing off an album and preparing for a European tour. Oh, and we've been approached by the Ultra music festival to play in Miami, which is big news for us too!! Cant Wait! Music and Travelling... what's not to like?

Sounds like you guys have been busy! Will you be making an appearance during the festival season?

So far festival season is shaping up well, Boomtown, Waveform, One love with Luciano, Iration Steppa's and David Rodigan, Beach Break with Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding and Chase & Status. Watch this space for updates!!!

What inspires you when writing music?

For me, it's less about inspiration and more just the brain having creative urges. I cant force it in the same way that I can't just turn it off! Writing music is like an itch you just have the scratch.

When you get some time to yourself, what do you like to do?

I love being creative! Drawing, sewing... My mum bought me a sewing machine last year for my birthday and now I just love making my own clothes. I'm getting better at it with every item I make!   Threadbanger tutorials on Youtube are the way forward.

On a rare occasions, rubbish telly gets my vote too. Jeremy Vile is my shameful pleasure....where do they get those people? FACT...If your boyfriend says "I've got tickets for the Jeremy Kyle show," it means your dad is pregnant by him and he's keeping it!
