Budding Jewellery Designer claims 1st prize at London Fashion Show
With a First Class BA Honours in Jewellery Design from the Birmingham School of Jewellery, as well as claiming numerous awards along the way, no-one can say that 30 year old Kirsty Davies is anything but a talented jewellery designer
However the newly launched “Design Space” scheme set up by Birmingham City Council, and funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Birmingham City Council, has given Kirsty and numerous other entrepreneurs the help and support needed to take their designs to the masses and live their dream.
The new scheme aims to provide a supportive arena for budding entrepreneurs, as well as a shared work space, business support and facilities for up to 20 creative’s allowing them to develop their designs and businesses.
Kirsty has recently moved into the Design Space studio in the Jewellery Quarter which over recent years has received continuous support from the City Council. From her new space she makes unique and customisable pieces made from a highly sophisticated synthetic rubber, which is resistant to oils and aging.
With aspirations of having her designs in some of the countries top department stores, Kirsty took her collection to the highly prestigious “Top Draw” fashion event in Earls Court, London earlier this month. Exhibiting alongside 600 other top range suppliers, each of whom have been hand picked by a series of panels, Kirsty wowed both visitors and judges claiming first prize in the “Fashion Products” category.
Kirsty said: “2010 has got off to a fantastic start. My first exhibition and I’ve already won an award. I’m really looking forward to the next few months, what with a number of other exhibitions planned and Kirsty Davies Designs officially launching, there’s a lot to do.
“The Design Space scheme has really helped me get my company off the ground, not only giving me a place to do my work, but also giving me someone to bounce ideas off about my designs and how to operate my company.
“If you’re looking to enter the jewellery industry I highly recommend that you apply for the scheme. Take a chance and follow your dream. You’ll never know what you can achieve unless you jump in head first.”
Councillor Summerfield, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said “The Design Space scheme is a fantastic way to help budding entrepreneurs make those first steps in setting up their own business.
“Finding a place to develop your business is just one of many obstacles people face.
This new scheme not only provides a workspace but also a structured support system with fellow entrepreneurs and experts a like.
“Kirsty is a perfect example of how Design Space can help jewellery designers. After only a short period in her new workspace she has already confirmed a number of exhibitions where she will be displaying her wares. Her dedication and enthusiasm are true assets to her business and jewellery collection.”
