Tim Hickman: Eclectic, Artistic & Rustic Design
Tim Hickman is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Staffordshire. His style blends a mix of grubby old fashioned prints, crispy vectors and classic typography using a combination of vector art and natural imagery to create eclectic, artistic and rustic artworks.
When asked about his inspiration, Tim tells Creative Boom: Stoke, “I’m currently being inspired by architecture, art-deco fonts & Victoriana, but I’m also a sucker for a bit of 60′ s- 70’s design, and street art. I’d like to see what happens with a little mixture, there’s a bit more room for humor and some brighter colours in my work. I’m experimenting with how this can be done with some posters that I’m currently working on.”
One of our favorite pieces in Tim’s portfolio has to be the artwork that he created for the Jackson Palmer album cover (pictured above). The idea for this commission concentrated on the use of the band’s lyrics and the designer wanting to see them in the ‘real world’. Tim achieved this by creating something organic from the lyric sheets supplied by the lead singer. The photo manipulation, coupled with the use of rusty brown colours, creates an interesting and atmospheric piece.
