University Media School gets seal of approval from industry professionals
Media professionals from across the country attended the official industry launch of the new Media School at University of Gloucestershire last week.
Senior media industry figures, production companies and freelance practitioners who regularly visit and teach at the University, joined past and present, staff and students, successful alumni and special guest, Dinah Caine, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Skillset at the Park Campus in Cheltenham.
During a drinks reception guests were able to view student work, followed by words from the key speakers and a tour of the new state-of-the-art facilities. Student representatives from the School of Media mingled with professionals representing a broad spectrum of industry from music to journalism.
The Media School with an open newsroom, TV, film and radio studios and teaching facilities replaces the former Students’ Union bar and office space. The School supports a range of courses including Journalism, Digital Film Production and TV and Radio Production.
Anne Dawson, Head of the Media School said: “The event brought together media professionals who have supported the University over the years, to thank them and invite them to take their first glimpse at our fantastic new facilities.
“We were delighted to welcome so many industry friends and look forward to working with them in the future.”
Stephen Marston, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Gloucestershire continued: “We were very pleased to welcome Dinah Caine and the many businesses and organisations we work with to help launch our new media facilities.
“The premises are fantastic - but better still are the partnerships with employers that ensure our students graduate with the skills, capabilities and confidence that the media industries need.”
Dinah Caine added: “It's wonderful to see the University of Gloucestershire - one of our Skillset Media Academies - having invested in and developed such fabulous facilities by bringing the media, computing and business schools together on one site.
“This kind of inter-disciplinary approach is what the industry is looking for in terms of developing future talent.”
In addition, members of the Cheltenham Film Society officially opened the new CFS Suite in recognition of their contribution to young film makers at the University of Gloucestershire.
