Euan the Lion added to the pride
Bath design agency, Ideas of the Mind, is sponsoring a bonus lion in the final month of the Lions of Bath public art project, as well as bringing a star of the original cast of The Lion King to sing at the Roar Goodbye Weekend (9-10 Oct).
‘Euan the Lion’, sponsored and designed by Ideas of the Mind, will be covered in lion-themed British and African coins - as a way of drawing attention to the value of this fast diminishing species. Proceeds from its sale at the Lions of Bath auction in October will go to the Born Free Foundation, the charity founded by Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna.
Lions often appear on coins, particularly in British currency. Ideas of the Mind designs coins for a well known international Mint, which recently sold an 1839 ‘Una and the Lion’ coin for near to £20,000. With fewer than 20,000 lions left in the wild, a large 24ct gold plated replica of this Una and the Lion coin will be positioned in pride of place on the lion sculpture’s forehead, alongside thousands of other coins.
To help promote the event, Ideas of the Mind has persuaded Roger Wright (pictured), who starred in the original cast of the London musical, The Lion King, to perform at the Roar Goodbye Weekend (9-10 October). All the lions will be on display to the public in front of the Royal Crescent during this family event, with entertainment and refreshments, plus lion-themed activities for children, and souvenirs on sale.
