Cheltenham Film Society thanked for student support

The Cheltenham Film Society’s (CFS) contribution to young film makers at the University of Gloucestershire has been recognised at an industry launch of the new Media School.

Earlier this year, society members pledged their support to the county’s budding filmmakers. Beneficiaries included the University’s Digital Film Production course, who received a total of £9,000 funding which comprises £3,000 per year for equipment, bursaries and prizes over a three year period.

The CFS Suite at the Media School, Park Campus in Cheltenham has been named in recognition of the ongoing support the society has provided to the students and their studies. Further funding has contributed to the installation of state-of-the-art editing software for third year students.

In addition, the department has recently announced the Cheltenham Film Society funded Most Promising Student Bursary to third year student Grant Gulcynzski, to commend his outstanding commitment to the course, work with other students, and his own films. Grant will use the funds to develop more ambitious projects in his final year.

And, in May this year, members of the society funded and presented the Best Film Award to a group final year Digital Film Production students at their end-of-year screening and prize giving at Cheltenham’s Cineworld. The winners have put the prize money towards submitting their work to film festivals.

Freya Billington, Course Leader Digital Film Production said: “The support of the Cheltenham Film Society has been a fantastic boost for the course, not only because of their financial contribution, but it has also opened up the possibility of future collaboration between both organisations, including screening of students work.”

Michael Bourne, Chair, Cheltenham Film Society added: “The CFS is delighted to support the work of young filmmakers in the County. We have been very impressed by the quality of short films by University students and are delighted to have been able to showcase these along with our main programme. Our audience have been very complimentary of the content and quality. We look forward to our future support to the University.”
