Bath Spa Students win television award for Liquid Soap
Bath Spa University's student webcast comedy series, Liquid Soap, has won a top award at the regional finals of The Royal Television Society Awards.
Liquid Soap - set in the toilets of the cafe at 'First Central University' - won the Fiction category of the competition at a packed event in Bristol. The students will go on to represent the region at the national Royal Television Society Awards in London in April.
Launched in October last year, Liquid Soap has had thousands of hits on its website www.liquidsoap.tv, with regular episodes through the autumn term revealing the hilarious world of gripping micro-dramas that are played out daily in the university cafe toilets.
The set for Liquid Soap has now been installed in it own studio at Endemol West in Bristol and the second series is currently being prepared for filming in March. The student-led BSUTV society, under the guidance and professional expertise of former EastEnders producer/director Chris Jury and Touch Films producer Nic Jeune, is now developing its activities to create a range of programmes for internet broadcast.
Chris Jury said: "I'm absolutely delighted that the students have won this award. The Royal Television Society awards are acknowledged throughout the industry as highly prestigious commendations recognising excellence in practice."
