Made in Roath Festival 2010
Residents and visitors to Roath will be treated to a weekend of art, craft and performance on 15th-17th October 2010 as the streets, businesses, parks, homes and public venues of Roath are transformed into an open art spaces.
This weekend in October sees the follow up to last year’s hugely successful Made In Roath Arts Festival- a community-based project which promises an exciting and eclectic mix of exhibitions, residencies, workshops, performances and much more. Made in Roath aims to give people, of all ages and abilities, the opportunity to view, enjoy, get involved in and generally celebrate local arts.
Open to everyone, from professional artists to those trying out a new hobby, Made In Roath is an artist-led event which will use both public and private spaces to showcase the considerable talents of Roath residents as well as artists from further afield. Organised by Roath residents, the aim is to bring people together, strengthen community spirit and to promote the vast array of creative talent within the area.
Encompassing all aspects of the arts Made In Roath has something for everyone, showcasing the work of visual artists, performance artists, musicians, writers, makers, poets, film-makers, photographers, dancers and more. Alongside the Open Exhibition at the Gate Arts Centre, the Open House trail and the artist residency programme, the festival will feature a vast array of other exhibitions as well as performances, workshops, screenings and installations…
The Open Exhibition, which gives everyone a chance to show off their artistic side, will be held at the Gate Arts Centre, whilst various other exhibits will be displayed in the houses, shops, windows, cafes and meeting places around Roath. Resident artists in local businesses will produce one-off pieces reflecting their specific Made In Roath locations, whilst other artists/makers will be on hand to teach their techniques at various craft workshops.
On both Saturday and Sunday, visitors will be able to amble freely between all of these creative treats throughout the daytime with the help of the Made In Roath Arts Trail Map, which will be made available in the weeks running up to festival. Come evening-time there will be plenty of live entertainment in store with a programme packed full of music, dance, spoken word and more.
