Tracey Emin Neon Art Work Launch on Friday 30th April To Be Followed by Weekend of Special Events

The launch of the neon art piece "I Never Stopped Loving You"  by Tracey Emin will take place on April 30th, 2010 at 7pm at Droit House, Stone Pier, Margate, CT9 1JD. Tracey Emin will personally be revealing her neon art work.

To celebrate Margate's Creative Quarter has arranged a number of events between the 30th April and 2nd of May.

Margate Old Town’s Creative Quarter is thriving with creativity and the arts, with a range of galleries, cafes and niche shops. Set back from the harbour, the Old Town’s rich history combined with increasing regeneration has yet to be fully appreciated by many visitors.

On Friday 30 April the shops and galleries will remain open until 9pm for ‘Late Night at the Creative Quarter’, coinciding with the opening of Emin’s latest art work; a neon text installed on the façade of Droit House, one of the most distinctive buildings on Margate’s seafront.

Shops staying open until late include Qing Art, The Cupcake Café, Helter Skelter, Etcetera, My Old Dutch, Betty B’s, Anthony Wait ,The Antiques Shop and many bars and restaurants.

Late Night at The Creative Quarter presents….

The Old Town Gallery: Sarah Stokes 1-3 Broad Street, Margate. Opening Dates and Times: 30 April - 2 May (10- 9pm) The Old Town Gallery located in the historic Market Place of the original fishing village, will be open until 9pm. The Gallery will be showcasing Sarah Stokes’ vibrant art exhibition Joining the Dots. Contemporary jeweller, Stephen Roper will also showcase his new collection. For this exhibition The Old Town Gallery will be providing an assortment of wine and nibbles for the guests to enjoy.

Crate Programme: Crate Project Space, Bilton Square, Margate, CT91DX Opening Dates and Times: 30 April and 1 May 12-5pm Crate presents Lacuna, which documents the actions of a series of personas inhabited by the artist Tom Duggan. The exhibition, which will take place at Crate Project Space in Margate and at the Herbert Read Gallery at UCA in Canterbury, comprises performance, installation, found objects and text works. Lacuna portrays an artist who isolates himself for our spectacle, while considering, perhaps ironically, how such artists have entered into art history.

The Community Pharmacy Gallery: Children of Haiti 16 Market Place, Margate Old Town, CT91ES Opening Date and Time: Private View 30 April 6-9pm, 30 April - 4 May 10am-6pm This photographic exhibition will showcase a series of powerful and yet infinitely warm images of children who live in and around an orphanage located northwest of Port au Prince. All prints will be available for purchase and all profits and donations raised will go directly to rebuilding the school in Haiti.

Margate Harbour Arm Gallery: May Day Open Exhibition Margate Harbour, CT9 1JD Opening Date and Time: Preview 30 April 7.30pm, open until 12May ‘May Day’ showcases the work of visual artists around East Kent; among them, Margate’s Roy Eastland, a 2009 Jerwood Drawing prize winner, painter Micky Motley and digital artist Angie Berkley. Margate Harbour Arm has recently been given a facelift. Through collaboration between Margate Harbour Arm Ltd, the European Regional Development Fund and Thanet District Council.

Margate Gallery 2 Lombard Street, Margate, CT9 1EJ: Portraits and a little bit more... Opening Date and Time: 30 April, 11am-9pm runs until 31 May A mixed exhibition featuring the work of Kitty Guthrie, Sally Trueman, Roy Eastland, Marina Elphick, Claudia Benson, Angela Rumble, Margot Bandola.  Scandalmongers will be providing live performance at various times between 6-9pm.  There is an ever changing collection of jewellery, ceramics, textiles, cards and sculpture.

Pie Factory Creative Spaces 5-9 Broad Street Margate CT9 1EW Artist Studios: Open Studios & Upon Margate Beach Opening Date and Time: 30 April, 6-9pm The Pie Factory artist studios will be featuring Zoe Murphy;  a designer maker who using images and inspiration from her hometown, Margate, and creates decorative bespoke furniture that is stocked in Liberty in London. Katie Welsford; contemporary artist working in mixed media who has exhibited her work nationwide, Katie’s Upon A Margate Beach will feature a collection of washed up ceramic pieces found over one year of walking on Margate beach. Katrina-Ann Woodward; working in mixed media or oils whose  work comes from a process of personal art therapy and can have elements of either erotica or abstraction.

Limbo Arts: Walpurgis Night Substation Project Space, 6 Bilton Square, High Street, Margate, CT9 1DX Opening Date and Time: 30 April 7.30pm Entrance £3 There will be a rare chance to see Ampersand perform at Substation Project Space, Margate. Ampersand are a group of improvisers of industrial ambience and describe their acoustic music as sonic sculpture and feature the insides of piano’s, shell casings, corrugated iron, scaffold and brass pipes all sounds mesh together creating a multifaceted timbral music.

Marine Studios: Peeling Layers 17 Albert Terrace, Margate, CT9 IUJ Opening Dates and Times: Private View: Friday 30th April 7-9pm. Public opening times: Saturday 1st May - Monday 3rd May from 11am – 4pm Marine Studios will host, ‘Peeling Layers’ an exhibition by Margate born artist Aurora Bain. Her first solo exhibition, the show is inspired by layers and masks that society creates, and how architecture, the environment, relationships and social behaviours can be hidden or changed, masking the truth.

We Make Margate: Empty Shops Initiative: Meet at Margate Harbour, CT9 1JD Opening Date and Time of seminar: 30 April 12.30-5.30pm ‘We Make Margate’ with Dan Thompson will promote the developments of the Empty Shops & Spaces Initiative and will be the place to find out about opportunities to make Margate and Thanet a great place to live and visit. A seminar will take place on 30 April, 12.30 - 5.30pm and will provide listeners with further information, preceded by a guided historic walk of the town.
