About Tiffany stained glass In the 1890's Louis Comfort Tiffany, the son of the famous jeweller, devised a  new way of working with  lead and glass  that opened up limitless possibilities for  beautifying the home with stained glass. These ranged from the famed  Art Nouveaux and Deco lampshades through to elegant miniature greenhouses or "terraniums". Artistic internal windows, mirrors and boxes were also popular. The new "copper foil" technique  enabled the craftsman to make  three dimensional and very  intricate designs, but also large panels.  These same historic skills and designs are brought to life alongside contemporary projects in the fascinating courses being run this Autumn at Old Town Gallery.

About Stephen Roper Stephen, the  co-owner of the gallery with his Mother Anne, is a jeweller and stained glass artist whose designs have been displayed at Liberty, The Gilbert Collection at Somerset House and The National Glass Centre. Stephen has run Old Town Gallery since 2002, pioneering the emerging Creative Quarter in Margate Old Town. The stained glass courses have been running since 2004.
