Creatives in Kent Head Towards The Light
LV21 is a 40 metre steel-hulled lightship being transformed into a floating cultural facility designed to provide a range of services promoting and supporting the creative industries in the Medway area and beyond. It also aims to celebrate and honour the maritime traditions of the vessel. LV21 is a unique venue with an individual and distinct identity, one of the area’s prime platforms for cultural activities across diverse artistic disciplines.
An integral aim of the LV21 project is to help rejuvenate the Medway riverfront and improve the public realm, bringing new life to what was once a busy commercial thoroughfare. LV21 will endeavour to act as a beacon, attracting the community, visitors and businesses to the riverside and establish itself as an iconic landmark for Medway. It will be a celebration of the area’s historical maritime importance and creative community, a brand synonymous with innovation, regeneration and rejuvenation – a shining light in the cultural offer of Medway. Overall LV21 will become a hub for local arts and creative people where they can meet, work and display their art.
LV21 is also a registered Arts Award Centre, offering Arts Award at all three available levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Arts Award aspires to support young people aged between 11 and 25, to enjoy the arts and develop creative leadership skills. Being an Arts Award Centre enables us to help young people to work towards a national qualification while engaging them in the arts and challenging them to share their talents and find out what inspires them.
The Arts Award offer can be based around any visual arts form or media related activity, with focus on a single art form or exploration of a range of art forms. The Arts Award is open to all abilities and there is no time limit for completing the award. Arts Award is run by Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall.
