Alien Lullabies Envelop and Mesmerize at Roxy Art House
'Seduces, scares and embraces you all at once...' International DJ Magazine
Scottish/Burmese composer and vocalist Fiona Soe Paing, in a collaboration with New Zealand based animation artist Zennor Alexander, perform the surreal live cinema show No Man's Land, featuring experimental electronica, original animation and live vocals, at the Roxy Art House on Sunday August 29th, supporting Hidden Orchestra's preview screening of their live re-score of Powaqqatsi.
'...stylish, elegant and sinister-obscure electronica, minimal beats and exotic voice merge seamlessly with animated visuals to evolve into a multimedia artwork"' (New Zealand Herald)
Rated by the New Zealand Herald as one of the highlights of last year's Auckland Fringe Festival, the show also had the seal of approval from top Scottish music blogger Peenko, 'sounded amazing...her voice is quite stunning...a very powerful live performance.'
BBC Radio One DJ Vic Galloway also rated the single Deep Song from the show, '...a future national anthem - an excellent track.'
Starting with a minimalist track with vocals in Burmese, the live set twists and turns through pulsating slabs of whispered electronica, bent-out-of-shape blues ballads and haunting cinematic soundscapes – lush, soulful, dark and minimal, left-field downbeat at its most down.
