Gill McColl

Posted by Katy Cowan in Lookbook on Tuesday 14th June 2011. Tagged with Gill McColl, graphic design.

Gill McColl is an Edinburgh-based graphic designer (and long-time friend of Creative Boom) with a love of print design, typography, letterpress, screen printing and vintage advertising. She recently completed an HND in Visual Communications (Graphic Design) at Edinburgh's Telford College and has an honours degree in English from Stirling University.

Her final project, Take the Proverbial, combines her love of graphic design with a love of language – rebranding and rewriting traditional proverbs for a modern world. Through a series of 10 modern proverbs, Gill created limited edition artwork, printed using traditional production techniques in a modern way. The majority of the artworks are 100% recyclable – printed on environmentally friendly stock, using soy based inks and energy efficient production methods.

Gill was recently shortlisted as a finalist in the Marketing Society Creative Star Student Awards 2011 and has also just been awarded a YCN Commendation 2011 for her Ted Baker integrated campaign.

You can find out more about Gill and her work here and you can buy your very own Take the Proverbial designs here.
