Own the art you love
Ever fancied owning a piece of Scottish art that won’t break the bank? An exhibition of prints is opening on Friday 2nd December at the Creative Scotland headquarters in Edinburgh, part of The Skinny Showcase Shop, a new virtual enterprise presented through CultureLabel, which offers the chance to purchase limited edition artworks by emerging Scottish artists.
Supported by Creative Scotland through the Own Art scheme, you have the option to spread the cost of buying fine art prints, over ten months interest free. This initiative provides the opportunity for art lovers to support new talent for less than the price of a monthly mobile phone bill.
Rosamund West is the editor of The Skinny and has been selecting the Showcase since 2007. She said, “It's very exciting for us to be able to offer some of the beautiful images that have passed through our Showcase section to the public to buy, and we're very happy that CultureLabel and Creative Scotland have offered us this opportunity to bring these artists to a bigger audience.”
The first collection of prints presents seven diverse Scottish artists who have made works in painting, printmaking, photography, illustration, collage and graphic design. Those artists exhibiting and selling their work include:
- David Lemm
- Good Wives and Warriors
- Jamie Johnson
- Markus Thorsen
- Rabiya Choudhry
- Rachel MacLean
- Ross Fraser McLean.
Artist Rachel MacLean who is showcasing at the exhibition said, “The Skinny's CultureLabel project is a fantastic opportunity to exhibit and sell a collection of my prints alongside a diverse and accomplished group of artists and designers. The project not only offers great exposure but also supports the financial and practical difficulties of attempting to sell work as an emerging artist.”
Buying a piece of artwork is something that’s traditionally been considered a luxury, often only for those with a large disposable income. But, with the support of the Own Art scheme that perception is set to change.
Peter Tullin is the Managing Partner & Co-founder of CultureLabel said, "We are really excited about working with The Skinny and Creative Scotland to create an online platform for new inspiring artists. The collection features some truly brilliant limited editions and at really affordable price points, making it very accessible to everyone.”
Andrew Leitch, Own Art Development Officer at Creative Scotland said, “Creative Scotland is very excited about our continued partnership with Own Art and The Skinny. We seek to support the development of new talent in Scotland and feel that collaborating with CultureLabel helps promote this ambition.”
The selection of prints by the seven early career Scottish artists will be available to view at the exclusive exhibition and then to purchase online.
