Welcome to Creative Boom, an e-zine and free network community that aims to celebrate, inspire and support the creative industries throughout the UK. Now part of The Guardian Culture Professional Network, the site is one of the country's fastest growing creative networks.
Launched on the 24th July 2009, Creative Boom is run solely and voluntarily by Katy Cowan, a trained journalist and writer who lives in Brighton, UK while her husband Tom - a web and software developer - built the entire site from scratch and continues to improve the e-zine during his spare time. A number of contributors also volunteer their time to write articles for Creative Boom.
In just two and a half years, Katy and Tom's 'side project' has attracted the attention of many global brands, respected agencies, creative industries organisations and has even been featured in The Guardian, The Independent, Computer Arts, Creative Review and the BBC.
It is blessed with a strong, loyal community of freelancers, agencies and creatives across the UK and beyond. On Twitter @Creative_Boom, over 24,500 people follow the e-zine's founder and there are nearly 8,100 'likes' on its Facebook page.
Katy came up with the idea for the site when the recession affected her business. She is passionate about helping creative businesses, no matter how big or small, supporting all sorts of creative fields from music, design, photography and fashion to film, PR, marketing, media and animation.
Creative Boom aims to bring you creative industry news, features and events no matter where you're based in the UK. It also has a free Jobs Board and free Directory, both of which aim to support the creative industries.
The entire ethos for Creative Boom is to offer free support and help freelancers and businesses both large and small to be inspired, raise their profiles, attract new business and effectively cause a creative industry boom across the UK.
Any money we do make - that's whether it's via 'Pro' listings on our directory or sponsored advertising - gets pumped straight back into developing the site and covers our hosting and all associated running costs.
So if you're keen to collaborate, network, get noticed, attract business, learn new things, be inspired or find out what's happening in your creative field, Creative Boom is an organic e-zine that has been designed especially for you and will continue to adapt and improve to suit your needs. Thanks for stopping by!
