Titanic Artwork Showcased
A ‘Titanic’ art piece, created by children from across Belfast, has been unveiled. The 8ft tall structure – created by more than 500 schoolchildren from all parts of the city – was seen for the first time in public at an exhibition in Belfast City Hall.
As part of the celebrations leading up to the Titanic Centenary, Belfast City Council delivered a Titanic themed community arts project through its 23 summer schemes across the city.
The spectacular result of their art work, which was created under the direction of artist Jim Russell, is a structure of snapshot images epitomising Titanic Belfast – past, present and future.
Belfast Mayor, Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile, congratulated those involved in the project for reaching out to communities and encouraging children of all ages to feel part of the Titanic story.
“This is a 100-year-old story told through the eyes of the next generation,” he said.
“Most importantly, it is encouraging us all to look to the future as well as the past. We are a city with big ambitions and Titanic Belfast is a symbol of that.”
