The 'Circus with a Purpose' is coming to Stockport
Circus Starr is a 'magical mix of top flight acrobatics, breathtaking balancing and non-stop comedy', and is coming to Stockport on Monday 12th April 2010 to raise both smiles and money for the Neonatal Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital.
Circus Starr promises a roundup of top circus talent from around the country, from the hilarious antics of Duo Delbosq, a physical comedy duo, to a unique performance from Argentinean Gaucho, as featured on the Paul O’Grady Show, with the famed Bolas Dance of Courage set to wow any audience. In addition, Tracy Jones brings grace, skill and sheer beauty to the line up with her international acclaimed Corde Lisse act.
Circus Starr occupies a unique position in British circus by raising thousands of pounds for local charities with the advance sales of show tickets to local businesses. The donations from those sales go towards specialised equipment for hospitals and hospices. Since proudly taking to the road 23 years ago, Circus Starr has raised more than £2 million for local charities. It has worked with over 200 local charities and enjoys support from over 23,000 companies across the UK. Circus Starr also operates a donated tickets programme, enabling over 75,000 underprivileged children to experience the circus.
The event raises money for Stockport's Stepping Hill hospital. In December 2009 the state-of-the-art neonatal unit opened at Stepping Hill Hospital. The maternity department at the hospital, which has achieved the highest standards rating in the country, now benefits from an extended neonatal unit providing even better intensive and high dependency care for babies who require extra support during the neonatal period. The Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg visited the neonatal unit as part of his whistle-stop tour of the North West. He said: "This neonatal unit is cutting edge. I would like to see units like this in every hospital up and down the country.”
The circus will be in Torkington Park, Stockport, on Monday 12th April with two shows at 4.45pm and 7pm. For more information on Circus Starr, check out http://www.circus-starr.co.uk
