NorthernNet appoints Weber Shandwick to promote fast broadband
NorthernNet, a £15 million project funded by the Northern Way to help facilitate the growth of the northern digital and creative industries through technology and collaboration, has appointed Weber Shandwick North to spearhead its push to build the North’s reputation as a world-leading creative and digital hub.
The NorthernNet project includes providing digital and creative industries with access to up to 1GB of superfast broadband accessible through 17 Media Access Bureaus across the North. In addition, NorthernNet will be supporting a series of forward thinking, skill building and industry responsive events across the North to encourage collaboration between digital and creative agencies.
To help drive interest in the project and capture the imagination of the north’s digital and creative industries, Weber Shandwick will be launching the ‘It’s fast up north’ campaign, highlighting how NorthernNet will give creative and digital agencies an edge nationally and internationally. The contract is one of the biggest so far in 2010 for the region’s PR industry and was awarded as a result of the agency’s inline approach to communications, which looks at delivering messages through the channels that have most significance with a target audience.
During the 15 month contract Weber Shandwick will be tasked with driving sign-ups to the NorthernNet service as well as profiling the impact this project will have on the Northern creative and digital industries at a national and international level. Accessibility will be a key theme throughout the programme, highlighting how NorthernNet is accessible to large and small agencies.
Mercedes Clark-Smith, Project Director, NorthernNet Innovation and Collaboration Project, said: “NorthernNet will help transform the creative and digital industries across Northern England and we are looking forward to working with Weber Shandwick to create a real buzz around what is a truly a world class project. In being awarded the contract, Weber Shandwick demonstrated an excellent understanding of both traditional and new media.”
Jo Leah, Managing Director of Weber Shandwick North, said: “We have only just stepped into 2010 yet we have won what is one of our biggest agency contracts in the north to date. It is a fantastic coup to be working on such a technologically progressive project.”
