UK Press announce new media industry awards

UKPress, the online forum for media professionals, is launching its own awards to recognise the highlights and lowlights of the media and public relations industries.

Nominations for 'The UKPress Awards (Pressies)' are now open with voting taking place on Friday 12 February.

On 11 March (TBC), UKPress will hold a party in central London to launch the inaugural run of the 'Pressies' and also to celebrate its 10th birthday and the re-launch of its website, which is being revamped to create an online social network for media professionals. The event will be attended by members of UKPress as well as journalists and opinion-formers spanning all media sectors.

Comprising two sections - serious awards and those with a humorous twist - the 'Pressies' will recognise high achievement in the fields of journalism, PR, television and social media, as well as identifying the industry's public relations gaffes and editorial failings in a fresh and ironic way.

The 2010 UKPress Awards will include, for example: 'Best Use of Twitter', 'Highest Editorial Standards Award', 'Most Creative UK PR Campaign', 'Press Photo of the Year', 'Cleverest Headline', 'Celebrity Who Sold Out the Most', 'I Wish I Hadn't Said That Award', the 'Getting Blood Out of a Stone Award for Withholding Press Comments' and more.

Jo Chipchase, co-founder of UKPress, comments: "For the last decade, UKPress has provided an invaluable forum for media and PR people, so they can source the information they need and make useful industry contacts. We decided to celebrate our 10th birthday by redeveloping our website and launching our own industry awards that take a fresh approach to recognising the good, the bad and the ugly of the media and PR professions."

Tickets for the UKPress Awards and Party will be available from mid-February.
