The White Project at Nottingham Contemporary

Contemporary garments, all made in white, were the focus of a showcase event organised by fashion design students at Nottingham Trent University. The White Project at Nottingham Contemporary featured work by first year students from the university’s School of Art and Design.

About 100 students each presented an outfit, with a variety of designs inspired by everything from architecture and urban landscape to metamorphosis and the organic form – but everything in white.

Senior Lecturer in fashion design, Emma Prince, said: “We try to get our first year students to think about the shape, form and image of their designs, which is far easier when working in white. As they become more advanced they are introduced to colour. We gave students a completely open brief so there was a really wide range of work on show.”
