The Partners, the award-winning brand consultancy, has added its creative support to Face Britain – the UK's largest mass collaborative art project - which launches this week across the country.
Created by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts, Face Britain is a unique project that gives 5 million children aged 4-16 the opportunity to make their face famous by creating self-portraits to upload to an online gallery and to see their work displayed alongside that of Fearne Cotton, Amir Khan, Jeremy Irons, Quentin Blake and a host of other famous faces.
By providing a platform for young people to consider their own identity and place within history, Face Britain aims to celebrate the nation's children and future in the lead up to HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
The Partners has designed Face Britain’s identity, which includes the logo as well as communication materials. The Partners also designed the Creativity Packs, which have been sent to 30,000 schools across the UK to educate and inspire teachers to get their students involved.
The concept of the Face Britain identity was developed by The Partners to fit with the inclusive and creative aspirations of the campaign. As Robert Ball, a Creative Director at The Partners, explains: “We wanted to capture the all-encompassing nature of the project, the aim of every child having access to art regardless of age, ability or background.
“We developed the logo to look like a doodle. Rather than make the identity overly-complex, we wanted it to be instantly understandable to the project’s main audience and participants; children.”
The leaflet for Face Britain features the motif of children’s self portraits in ornate gilt frames. “This is also designed to fit with the mission of the project,” Robert continues, “to see children’s artwork as something of great value, something to be celebrated and admired.”
The children's self- portraits can be uploaded on to the Face Britain online gallery between September 2011 and March 2012. Those portraits uploaded by the end of March have a chance of being part of a giant montage of HM The Queen which will be screened 20-22 April on all BBC Big Screens across the UK as part of the Diamond Jubilee... The Face Britain project will run until Summer 2012.
Commenting on The Partners’ involvement in the initiative, Jeremy Newton, Chief Executive of The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts, says: “We are delighted to have had the support and creative input of The Partners’ in creating the face of Face Britain. This project has been designed to celebrate every child’s uniqueness and imagination across the country and it wouldn’t have been possible without The Partners’ ideas and involvement.”
Greg Quinton, Creative Director of The Partners and former Education Chairman of D&AD, adds: “We loved the idea of bringing all of these children’s portraits together in such a visual, creative and personal way. We are very proud to be involved in, and supporting, Face Britain.”
