The Gruffalo's Child arrives in time for Christmas

Publishing sensation The Gruffalo’s Child unveils its new merchandise range, which can be found at Selfridges & Co and John Lewis nationwide. The merchandise collection, focused on engaging young imaginations was created with the aim of capturing the charm and wit of The Gruffalo’s Child storybook; best selling companion to The Gruffalo.

The creative team at Together Design was responsible for creating the branding, product concepts and style guide for the high quality merchandise programme having worked on the Gruffalo brand prior to this.

Daryl Shute at Magic Light Pictures said: “Using the irreverence of Julia's words and the beautifully rich snowy environment of Axel's illustration, Together Design masterfully created a practical design scheme, perfectly capturing the spirit of the book.”

Heidi Lightfoot, Director at Together Design added: “In order to emulate the magic and night-time mood of the story we revisited the core design elements and extended the colour palette making better use of the shadow, light and silhouettes. The Gruffalo is a much loved character amongst children and parents alike so we were thrilled to be asked back to help with the second book.”

The stylish collection includes quality clothing and nightwear in natural fabrics, traditional stationery, stimulating activity products, giftware, greetings cards and plush characters.

In celebration, Selfridges & Co will be holding Gruffalo Activity Days in Manchester (3rd Dec) and Birmingham (10th Dec) with colouring and writing activities, face painting and a special appearance from the Gruffalo himself.

In addition to this an animated special of The Gruffalo’s Child is to premier on BBC1 as a highlight of their Christmas schedule.

The children’s book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler is about the Gruffalo's daughter who, despite her father's stories, sets off into the woods to discover the 'big bad mouse', which is the only thing her father is afraid of.

Together worked with licence holder Magic Light Pictures and The Licensing Company to define The Gruffalo’s Child brand and create the extensive style guide.

Together has developed a focus on children’s brands having worked on The Phoenix, The Oxford Reading Tree and The Booktrust Teenage Prize.
