Raw create kids' website for Premier League

Salford-based creative design agency Raw has developed a website aimed at 8-11-year-olds as part of the Premier League’s ongoing Get On With The Game initiative. The Get On With The Game Kids website has a strong focus on capturing the great enjoyment of football as a sport and social activity, whilst educating and engaging children on a range of social and emotional issues, including the importance of getting on with each other and respecting the referee.

The Premier League has had great success in raising standards of behaviour with the Get On With The Game project and wish to share these values and beliefs with the players and fans of tomorrow. The Premier League is well aware of the ability football has to engage and educate children about their own behaviour and improve social awareness.

Cathy Long, Head of Supporter Services at the Premier League said: “Referees have to make important decisions all the time, and they use various man-management techniques to resolve conflicts and ensure that the game runs smoothly. The Get On With the Game Kids site realises the potential football has, and particularly refereeing, to teach children some valuable skills. We were keen to work with a young and innovative team who could bring our ideas to life, and Raw proved to be the ideal partner. The games and quizzes really engage the children and the caricatures of the referees make everyone smile.”

The new child-focused website that has been created by the team at Raw aims to further the success of Get On With The Game and give teachers the opportunity to link the initiative’s key messages with the SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) part of the National Curriculum through teaching packs, videos and engaging resources. The site is filled with illustrations from The Boy Fitz Hammond and has a range of interactive games and features to keep young visitors entertained.

Steven Taylor, Raw’s managing director said: “The Premier League is one of the biggest football brands in the world so it was a real privilege to be selected to work on this initiative. The project has been very multi-faceted, from creating decision-making games and explaining the laws of the game to video interviewing referees, fans and school children. The initial challenge for us was to create a style that 8-11-year-old kids would find exciting and engaging and that would work in both digital and printed form. With prior experience of designing for this age group in mind we knew that the Boy Fitz Hammond’s brilliant creations would work perfectly. His characters really set the tone for a website that is fun and educational.”

Based in Islington Mill, Salford, Raw is a creative design agency that creates thoughtful pieces of design and creative communications, with a focus on craftsmanship and collaboration. Rob Watson and Steven Taylor founded the company five years ago and the team has grown to seven people. Clients include the BBC, the NHS and The FA.
