15 young artists from Newcastle Collage and Chesterton Youth Centre have designed a piece of public art warning of the dangers of binge drinking.
The Tile Mural was unveiled last week at the West Brampton subway. With the slogan, 'Don't Lose Your Head to Alcohol' the artwork aims to both warn about the dangers of binge drinking and create a more attractive gateway into Newcastle.
The teenagers worked with Burslem artists Sarah Nadin and Nicola Winstanley to create an eye catching design which was then printed onto tiles by ceramic printing company, Digital Ceramics.
Sarah and Nicola encouraged the young artists to discuss their ideas about alcohol and young people which lead to the students coming up with the slogan and final artwork. The whole project has not only been a great way for the students to showcase their skills, but has been an enjoyable experience for all involved.
