New label launches Kin Kin Bag

Kin Kin is a new and independent bagwear label, born and bred in the UK. Behind this start-up label is the creative partnership of Michelle Wilkins and Andrew Chongsathien. They design and make bags that are “fresh, alternative and not for the masses…designed to go with your favourite kicks or latest high tops”.

Their signature product is the self-titled “Kin Kin bag”, a new silhouette designed to be worn five ways. Each bag is individually cut and sewn at their Cardiff studio and only produced in limited numbers. “This maintains the unique and individual nature of each colourway”, says Michelle.

Looking to bridge the gap between the handbag and sneakers market, they recently attended at a London based independent fashion event and are now focused on growing their brand awareness.

“We’ve spent a lot of time making sure that the brand feels right to us. There is so much inspiration out there, from music, artwork, attitudes and fashions from city cultures around the world. We had to step back and find our own focus”, says Andrew, who developed the concept.

“Being a small brand, it’s exciting not knowing where things could take us and we’d like to grow more naturally and organically than forcing things to happen. We’ve got lots of thoughts and ideas that we’d love to see happen in 2011.”

Their first collection consists of five colourways inspired by some of their favourite sneakers. 'RELEASE_01' is available from this month at their online shop. More product lines, surprise releases, and potential collaborations are all in development for 2011.

“We don’t work strictly on a seasonal calendar, so when we’ve created something new, our followers will be the first to know.”
