New Designers 2010: Showcasing the best of graduate design
New Designers 2010 will soon be showcasing the best of graduate design, from architecture to animation, furniture to fashion, graphics to glass at the Business Design Centre in 52 Upper Street, Islington, London.
The event has been running for 25 successful years and its longevity testifies to its success as the leading showcase of graduate design talent, presenting the work of the next generation of professional designers as they emerge from the UK’s design courses to make their impression on the creative sector.
DATES: PART 1: 1-4 July 2010 – Textiles; Fashion & Accessories; contemporary Applied Arts; Ceramics & Glass; Jewellery & Precious Metalwork.
PART 2: 8-11 July 2010 – Product Design; Furniture; Visual Communications, including Graphic Design & Illustration; Spatial Design.
The industry acclaimed New Designer Award and VIP Previews take place on the evenings of Wednesday 30 June and Wednesday 7 July 2010.
New Designers attracts the support of leading brands, commercial organisations such as Hallmark Cards Plc, and The Goldsmiths’ Company to sponsor and present awards; keen to be associated with and able to identify the brightest ideas, latest trends and hottest fresh design talent. The event has propelled the likes of Thomas Heatherwick, Ella Doran, Matthew Williamson and Frederickson Stallard into the design sector spotlight. These alumni remain staunch supporters for New Designers.
The satellite event within New Designers -One Year On showcases a specially selected group of some small companies and individual designer-makers whose work has matured and progressed in the first year in business. Following the success of One Year On in 2009, the feature will be curated again by manufacturer and distributor Thorsten van Elten. Regularly attracting the attention of retail buyers, stylists and galleries the feature is one of the most popular elements at New Designers.
Such is the show’s importance and prestige within design education that it is regularly oversubscribed, with a strong mix of existing and new colleges taking part. The Visual Communications zone has been increased in size for 2010 and includes an expanded college list showing animation and illustration.
School Days provide inspirational visits for 6th form pupils to gain an insight into the UK’s varied design courses and potential career options.
