Heterarchy create a Private Members lounge from a Gym at London's largest independant hotel

As the first stage in a wider programme of refurbishment The Regency Hotel in South Kensington, which is London’s largest independent hotel, commissioned Heterarchy to create a luxurious, contemporary private members lounge from what was their gym.

On a modest budget Heterarchy has achieved spectacular results with a space finished to extremely high standards with lined walls in stretched fabrics and rich veneers, smooth surface finishes and folding panels to define it’s different uses throughout the day.

They have created a contemporary, luxurious yet intimate space that accommodates a multitude of uses for The Regency’s premium guests; from breakfast in the morning, as a work space for guests throughout the day (all technology is discreetly hidden in the design) to a relaxing lounge and bar area in the evenings.

Harish Patel, the owner of The Regency Hotel says that: “Heterarchy has produced an interior that provides a real sense of luxury and intimacy. We’re delighted with the end result and it sits well within the historic fabric of our hotel. It feels like such a special place to be.”

Tony Matters, Creative Director at Heterarchy said: “Good Design is about being creative to find clever solutions, giving a space a strong identity and ultimately providing a richer experience for those that use it. This project is proof that these things can be achieved without compromise.”

_Heterarchy is run by Tony Matters and Rosemarie Fitton from a converted 1920’s Knitwear factory in Leicester. For the last 10 years they have provided interior architecture and design services across the UK. Their specialist areas of practice are in Hospitality and Religious/Spiritual Space.
