Heriot-Watt student shortlisted for the Scottish Fashion Awards

A young fashion student from Larbert who studies at Heriot-Watt University’s prestigious School of Textiles and Design has been shortlisted for Graduate of the year at the Scottish Fashion Awards.

Pamela Aitken (23), a former pupil of Falkirk High School, has been studying Fashion for the past four years at Heriot-Watt University in Galashiels.

Pamela said, “I'm thrilled to have been nominated in the Scottish Fashion Awards. Whether I win or not it has given me a tremendous boost towards achieving my goal of reaching the top in such an exciting industry.”

Mark Timmins, Course Director at Heriot-Watt University’s School of Textiles and Design, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Pamela and well deserved. She has worked hard throughout her course and has created a stunning collection that is bold, tasteful and contemporary.”

As well as attending the high profile Scottish Fashion Awards at the Glasgow Science Centre on the Wednesday 15th June, Pamela will present her one-off collection at the Heriot-Watt 2011 Graduation Exhibition and Show (Friday 24 June) along with twenty-three of her fellow graduate fashionistas, at the Dovecot in Edinburgh.

Pamela’s designs demonstrate her unique and creative style, with a womenswear collection created with high quality silks, Venetian wool, metallic organza and coated cotton. She has individually sourced and carefully selected all her fabrics to complement the structural silhouettes and subtle features of her designs.

There are bursts of colour throughout the collection, from rich orange, metallic silver, subtle ochre and bold black and she has introduced laser cut hexagon shapes to selected garments to make a strong personal statement.

Pamela added, “I have already chosen my outfit for the awards evening. I came across a little hidden treasure called 'Lola Lemons', a beautiful boutique that recently opened in Larbert. The dress is by Pia Michi, a glamorous gold jewelled full-length Grecian dress, it’s very sleek and the perfect evening choice and I am really looking forward to wearing it to the awards ceremony”.
