The UK’s largest art and design graduate talent exhibition Free Range returns to East London’s Old Truman Brewery in June for an eight-week free showcase of new British art and design talent. Now in its eleventh year, Free Range has established itself as the authoritative identifier and supporter of tomorrow’s best young creative talent.
2011 is set to be the exhibition’s biggest year yet, with the return of the highly successful ‘Fashion and Design’ category which launched last year and the introduction of a further new ‘Moving Image’ exhibition, which will join photography, art, graphic design and interior design on the schedule for the largest showcase of visually creative work to date.
Under the guidance of creative director and founder Tamsin O’Hanlon, Free Range continues to develop year on year and has become a crucial part of London’s cultural calendar. With more than 100,000 visitors attending the free exhibitions in 2010, the show attracts over forty-five participating UK universities and art colleges including Middlesex University, the University of Brighton, Nottingham Trent University and Ravensbourne College. In addition to providing exhibiting talent with a prominent platform for their work, Free Range collaborates with leading industry figures, opinion formers and institutes to facilitate introductions with new creative talent.
For the second year, Free Range will also collaborate with D&AD to present their annual ‘New Blood’ showcase, which selects the best graduates in graphic design, visual communication, advertising, and other commercial creative arts.
Free Range will commence with a series of invitation only fashion shows from May 31st to Friday 3rd June and a private view on the 2nd June before opening to the public on 3rd June. The exhibitions are open weekly from Friday – Monday. The 2011 schedule will be as follows:
- Week One: Fashion and Design
- Week Two: Design
- Week Three: Graphics
- Weeks Four: Photography
- Week Five: ‘New Blood’ (in collaboration with D&AD)
- Week Six: Art

The Old Truman Brewery, East London's revolutionary arts and media quarter, is home to a hive of creative businesses as well as exclusively independent shops, galleries, markets, bars and restaurants. For fifteen years the Old Truman Brewery has been regenerating its ten acres of vacant and derelict buildings into spectacular office, retail, leisure and event spaces. The finely tuned mix of business and leisure has created an environment unique in London, making the Old Truman Brewery a destination in its own right.
The Old Truman Brewery has a history of supporting and facilitating artists and designers. Initially, this was with a view to showcasing the Old Truman Brewery as a major creative venue as well as providing young, up and coming talent with the chance to perform in an established venue on an international level. Now these special projects very much push themselves forward under their own momentum... These include Free Range and Fashion East.
