Simon Spilsbury, illustrator and Creative Director of Artbombers, has been filmed at work decorating one of the Lions of Bath sculptures in his iconic style. Directed by Simon Deshon, the film can be seen below.
The lion's name is 'Killerbite', as he is sponsored by Bath-based IT business Backup Direct, and will be positioned on Platform1 at Bath Spa railway station. Peter Blake has also done a lion, and as he and Simon are represented by the same illustration agent (www.centralillustration.com), the organisors are trying to get their lions to be located near each other.
Spilsbury's witty doodles cover the entire sculpture, and mostly depict little people running for their lives! He warns: "Other doodlers are not welcome on Killerbite, but I wouldn't be surprised if some joker tried to deface him. He's got four coats of varnish on him, so he's imminently restorable!"
Killerbite is one of the 100 lion sculptures that will soon start appearing all over the city, as part of the Lions of Bath public art project happening over the summer. Creative Boom is showcasing any of the lions designed or sponsored by creative businesses in the city.
