Festival Launch Pad for Space Odic Samurai
A melodic band of Celtic and samurai warriors from the Midlands are promising a performance of cosmic proportions at this month's Solihull Festival.
Space Odic Samurai will be aiming for the stars with the launch of their debut album 'The Eye' at Solihull Theatre Arts Complex on Friday, September 24.
The brand new group have risen from the nucleus of former New Age pioneers China Doll whose '80s song successes included the international hit 'Turkish Delight', which went on to be voted BRMB Radio Record of the Year.
They will be performing original songs and classic rock, soul and jazz covers infused with Celtic and Oriental rhythms and an idiosyncratic vocal style from the new CD.
The event's proceeds will go to the band's adopted charity Acorns Children's Hospice.
Lead singer Fay Goodman, who is also a world-leading martial artist under the guise of The Lady Samurai, will be joined by Martin Lucas (aka The Celturian) on acoustic guitar, and Hughie Thomas on saxophone, clarinet and flute.
As one of the UK's most versatile singer-songwriters, composers and instrumentalists, Fay Goodman not only fronted China Doll but has also sung and played instruments from the piano and guitar to the Japanese koto and shakuhachi on her worldwide CD recordings, through her Birmingham-based production company Goodmedia.
Martin Lucas is a self-taught maestro of the acoustic guitar, whose dexterity and panache have won countless fans in the UK and America. His latest classical work 'Visions' has been recognised with a top-twenty chart certification from the International Association of Independent Recording Artists (IAIRA). BBC Radio WM has praised him as “the only person who makes the guitar sing like an orchestra”.
Fay Goodman, who will also be giving a Tessen fan demonstration, said: “Think beautiful instrumentals followed by quirky folk music and round this off with inspiring ballads and you are half way to appreciating the music of Space Odic Samurai.
“Solihull Festival will provide the perfect launch pad for our newly formed band in terms of showing people who we are and what we are about. We can promise a wonderful evening of music and entertainment for all the family.”
