Dance HQ brought the flash mob phenomenon to Glasgow City Centre over the weekend.
The stunt was organised via social networking site Facebook after intrigued members of the public answered a call to be part of a Secret Mission.
The dance mobsters met up in the Dance HQ studios situated in the famous Templeton Carpet Factory at Glasgow Green at early hours to await instructions on the same day. These mobsters consisted of local Glasgow people who are enthusiastic about dance.
Dance HQ not only wanted to promote their spacious New York loft style studios to the public but more importantly wanted to let the people of Glasgow know that anyone and everyone can use the studios.
Susan Elena, Director of Dance HQ says: “Dance is more popular than ever right now and the range is incredible, everything from Tap & Ballet to Charleston, Broadway Jazz & Lyrical Freak Out are taught at Dance HQ to adults and children of all ages so there really is something for everyone.”
The aim was to create a unique twist to the already well-known phenomenon of the flash mob by informing the shoppers that Dance HQ is guaranteed to get you moving in no time.
Jane-Louise Pillans, Dance HQ Flash Mob Participant says: “The Dance HQ flash mob rocked Buchanan Street today! Our dance was so infectious, young and old joined in the fun.”
The mobsters, some of whom have never danced before, only had 3 hours to learn the routine and then perform it spontaneously in front of the Glasgow crowd.
Isla Kapasi, Dance HQ Flash Mob Participant says: “I’ve never participated in anything like this before but the dance was really easy to learn and great fun. I was amazed at the diversity of the dancers and I’d definitely do something like this again.”
Saturday’s Flash Mob was just the start of a busy summer of dance activities for Dance HQ. Monday 4th July brings the start of a new timetable of classes for adults and Summer Laughs & Summer Moves, unique dance and comedy workshops for kids aged 7-16 before the launch of the Blaze Dance Academy in August.
