Leading lights from London’s creative and media industries are joining forces with five universities to hold the first-ever London Media Skills Week, taking place from 21-25 November.
The week, sponsored by Skillset, is intended to help media and creative professionals boost their careers and sharpen their skills with a week of free training and networking sessions at Skillset Media Academies across London.
Ben Hammersley, Editor at Large of Wired UK, and Independent Producer Serena Cullen, are among the industry experts speaking at events.
The sessions span a wide variety of topics relevant to those working in all corners of the industry, including: creating mobile apps; entrepreneurial journalism; leading creative teams; managing digital imagery and research for factual productions.
The participating universities are all Skillset Media Academies: Goldsmiths, Middlesex University, Ravensbourne, University of Hertfordshire and University of Westminster.
Deputy CEO of Skillset, Kate O’Connor, said: “The five Skillset Media Academies behind the week are industry-approved centres of excellence in media education. It is fantastic to see them join forces for the benefit of professional creatives who want to train with the best to stay at the top of their game.
“The short courses offered by these Academies give professionals from across the creative industries the chance to build their careers, all the while building credits towards an MA.
“London Media Skills Week will give people a great introduction to the range of short courses that are available throughout the year.”
Serena Cullen, Independent Producer at SCP Ltd, said: “London is a global hub for the media and creative industries. London Media Skills Week will bring together the brightest and best from across the sector, with the ultimate aim of helping to maintain the UK’s world-class position. It is a pleasure to be working hand in hand with organisations which are fostering new and innovative talent."
London Media Skills Week is a one-off chance to access free training sessions and networking events at Skillset Media Academies across the city between 21-25 November 2011. The free sessions offer a taster of some of the courses available around the capital in 2011/12 as part of Skillset’s Build Your Own MA programme.
Sessions are open to professionals with two or more years experience in the creative and media industries.
