Established in late 2007, and presented by Chimera Productions, Blank Canvas returns for its bi-monthly ‘club’ night reputed for its eclectic contemporary classical and experimental music programming, which pays no heed to classical music convention.

BFI Southbank and AV label Ne1co's regular club event with a filmic twist returns in a special collaboration with contemporary classical producer Will Dutta's Blank Canvas project, featuring live performances from some of the brightest young things in the UK music scene.

Warp Records' and British Composer Award-winner Mira Calix combines with visualist Quayola and cellist Oliver Coates to present a live rendition of their multimedia piece 'Natures'; pianist GéNIA performs music by Gabriel Prokofiev, Max de Wardener and Somei Satoh and experimental musician and member of the formidable Flat-E visual collective, Ultre presents a special live audiovisual set with drummer Alvin Ryan. With more live performances to follow in the main foyer space, this evening promises many audiovisual surprises. Please check websites below for up to date line up.

Some of the artists who have stamped their mark across Blank Canvas gigs include: Sean O’Hagan (High Llamas frontman & Stereolab collaborator), Leafcutter John (of Mercury Award-nominated Polar Bear), , Jon Hopkins, Jack Liebeck (Classical Brit Award-nominee), London Sinfonietta, Elysian Quartet, Plaid (Warp Records veterans), Powerplant, Gabriel Prokofiev (Nonclassical) and part human beatboxer, part jazz drummer and all-round musician Shlomo.

Regular AV club event Dark Fibre provides a platform for artists exploring the interstice between moving image and electronic music and has pushed the audiovisual envelope with artists such as Oli Sorenson and Dan Tait, Zan Lyons, Yimino, Tom Middleton, DFuse, Exceeda, Quayola and Hexstatic. Last year Dark Fibre world premiered Howie B’s high definition feature film ‘Music For Astronauts’ and hosted a series of AV performances at the Big Chill festival.

Tickets are £9.00 non-members / £7.60 members. The event takes place at NFT-1, BFI Southbank, London on Friday 12 February 2010 from 9pm-Late.
