BBC North Launches Apprenticeships

BBC North has launched new apprenticeships for school leavers over the age of 16. Applications are now open for roles in Marketing and Audiences, Technology, Learning, Operations, BBC Children’s and HQ North.

The apprenticeships are open to applicants aged 16 and over from the Greater Manchester area, who have left formal education. Anyone with, or without, GCSEs is eligible to apply.

Based at BBC North’s new home at MediaCityUK, apprentices will be part of the initiative for up to 18 months. During this time they will receive on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching, and work towards an external qualification.

There are currently 12 roles open for applications, and apprentices from this initial round of recruitment will join BBC North in September 2011. Within the next three to four years, BBC North will offer up to 100 apprenticeships across all the divisions based at MediaCityUK - underlining BBC North’s long-term commitment to supporting employment and training across the region.

Ken Lee, HR Director, BBC North said: “This is a valuable training opportunity for the next generation of local talent. Offering jobs-with-training, this initiative is based on the traditional model of apprenticeship and has been specifically designed to attract people who would not otherwise think of working at the BBC."

The closing date for the current apprentice roles is Friday, 8th July.
