As the sister gallery of Axolotl, AXO is creating a community of artists. AXO artists pay a subscription of £30 a year to become a member.
Members are then sent a brief every 4 months and can submit one finished piece of work per brief. This can be performance, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, graphics or video. All of these will appear on the AXO website where they can be viewed and purchased.
AXO will chose the best pieces and the members will also vote for their favourite pieces. Those selected, will go on show in AXO’s curated exhibitions or ‘Happenings.’
Happenings were events created by artists initially in America, in the late 50’s. They took place in an environment within the gallery and involved light, sound, slide projections and an element of spectator participation.
AXO Happenings will run for 3 nights. Artists who sell on the opening night will receive 100% of the sale price (if it is over £600, AXO will take a £30 hanging fee). AXO will take 30% commission from any pieces sold on the following two nights.
Everyone will be promoted through the AXO section on Axolotl Gallery’s website. The works will be available to purchase from the website.
AXO artists can also make their own proposals for exhibitions or events in the AXO space. They are encouraged to collaborate with other AXO members also.
All members will be invited to private views or events in Axolotl and AXO.
Axolotl Gallery will be keeping an eye on artists in the AXO community and we may contact you to exhibit there regardless of whether you are in an AXO show.
Anyone can join – the focus is on your art NOT your age or CV.
If you are interested in joining, please contact enquiries@axolotl.co.uk or call in to Axolotl Gallery, 35 Dundas St, EH3 6QQ.
AXO is located at 59 Queen Charlotte Street, Leith, Edinburgh. Please note AXO is only open to the public during events and any queries should be directed to Axolotl Gallery.
