Avatar & James Cameron win big at Golden Globes
James Cameron's 3D masterpiece Avatar was the star of the 67th Golden Globe awards, scooping Best Drama and Best Director, as voted for by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The epic - which is already set to become the biggest selling blockbuster of all time - beat off fellow nominees Inglourious Basterds, Up in the Air, Precious and The Hurt Locker.
Up in the Air had been hotly tipped to win big on the night with over six nominations, including Best Actor for George Clooney. But it won just one award, which was Best Screenplay for Sheldon Turner and director Jason Reitman, for their work on Walter Kirn's novel.
Inglourious Basterds and Precious also walked away with just one award each. Mo'Nique was crowned Best Supporting Actress while Christoph Waltz scooped Best Supporting Actor for his role as a sadistic Nazi in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.
Meanwhile, summer smash The Hangover won Best Musical/Comedy.
Meryl Streep walked away with her seventh Golden Globe, winning Best Actress for Julie & Julia and Sandra Bullock won Best Dramatic Actress for The Blind Side.
Jeff Bridges received a standing ovation as he collected his award for Best Actor in Crazy Heart.
