Artist on the rise wins with National Geographic

The UK winners of the National Geographic Kids photography contest have been announced. Thousands of children in the British Isles have entered with four winners and one overall.

In category 1: People ,Cora Jundi-Mcknight age 10 was the winner. Eleven year old Hussein Mohamed Rabi claimed first place for category 2: Animals. For category 3: Scenery Jodie Dawes, 10, won with her picture "View From A Balcony". But the winner of category 4: Humour was also the overall winner in the whole of the United Kingdom. Get Back Better On is a quirky self portrait/ animal shot which depicts the photographer Eleanor Leonne Bennett as if she fell from a horse.

For her inspiring work, she has won the trip of a lifetime to Trinidad and Tabago and a Nikon D5000.

"I couldn't believe it at first," said Eleanor. "I've wanted to win this competition for ages but with the amount of wonderful photographs that win every year I thought I stood no chance. To know that my work has been viewed and judged by people like Reza, Steve Backshall, and the rest of the team at NG Kids feels completely out of this world".

And untill the 15 of February, an exhibition of the winners work is available to view at the National Geographic store in London,UK.

In the previous month Eleanor also claimed top prize in The World Photography Organisation's Photomonth Youth award which saw her beating photographic competition with other Young photographers around the UK to claim the top public vote when her finalist photographs were shown at the photomonth photofair in Spitalfields Market, at the photomonth photo-open exhibition in Old Truman Brewery and at Rich Mix in Bethnal Green.

She has won tickets to the Sony World Photography Awards, The World Photography Festival and a day of Tutorial from leading photographers in the WPO Acadamy.

Her photography will be showcased at The World Photography Festival next year 26th April - 1st May.

Since the age of 11 Eleanor has also won three national art competitions with the Woodland Trust Nature Detectives and has had one of her mixed media works exhibited in aid of Great Ormond Street Charity.

She has been taking photos for two and a half years are in 2009 she was the only person from the UK to be placed in the National Geographic and Airbus competition See The Bigger Picture.Her photo "Bug Eyes" was displayed in the global See The Bigger Picture Tour run by National Geographic as part of the United Nations International Year Of Biodiversity 2010.
