Art for all thanks to inspiring website

Design experts at Birmingham City University have launched a website to make thousands of rare and unique ‘zoomable’ artworks from galleries across the West Midlands freely accessible to schools, creative businesses and the general public.

The ground-breaking new website, Inspiration Bank at www.inspirationbank.com has been created by Media Content Lab, part of Birmingham City University. It contains over 5,000 zoomable images, including artworks by Van Gogh, Lowry and Epstein as well as glazed ceramics from Staffordshire and locally made objects from the time of the Industrial Revolution.

David Allen, the website’s project manager, said: "Users can explore rare collections from The New Art Gallery Walsall, Wolverhampton Museum & Art Gallery, The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery and Birmingham Central Library to spark their own imagination.

"Use of the site is completely free, while registration allows users to collect their favourite zoomable images in an online album."

Schools and colleges interested in discussing how they can make the most out of the site within the classroom should contact David Allen at info@inspirationbank.com or call 0121 204 9886.
