All Tropical to create a conservation sensation

Pioneers of London’s t-shirt design community All Tropical have teamed up with Ghosts of Gone Birds and some of the UK’s leading music talent to build a creative army. Together they will support conservation of endangered species with a t-shirt design competition judged by Elbow’s Guy Garvey, Doves’ Jimi Goodwin and Marc Riley of BBC 6 Music.

A special design challenge for young artists and graphic designers will ask ‘can you breathe life back into the birds we lost by designing a t-shirt?’ And they are invited to create their own version of an extinct bird, choosing from a list of 120.

Efrem Yamamoto de Paiva of All Tropical explained: “The top 10 rated designs will enter the second stage of the competition where Guy, Jimi and Marc will choose their two favourite designs. These will be printed on 100 limited edition t-shirts with the winning designers’ names on the labels – and the winners themselves will win tickets for the opening night of the Ghosts of Gone Birds exhibition.”

This will showcase a unique collection of artwork, literature and performances from some of the UK’s leading artists and writer. Further exhibitions up and down the country will show work from more than 80 contributors.

The exhibition will take place at Rochelle School, Shoreditch, from 2-23 November, and raise money for the BirdLife International programme to protect endangered species. A percentage of the profits from t-shirt sales will also go towards the cause.

Deadline for submission is 6 October.
