It is my pleasure to introduce you to the talent that is pure Class - officially launching in March! Over the past 12 months, Class Creative's Chris Pyatt and Jonathan Tiernan have organically built their web design practice to obtain an impressive client portfolio. Designer Chris Pyatt, fills us in on what they're all about...
Where did the name 'Class Creative' come from?
The name Class Creative came from meeting Jon through a mutual friend at the University of Leeds. The name emphasises our willingness to learn - to always improve our service offering. It also communicates the standard of work we aspire to produce.
How would you describe the work you do?
Our core product is web design as it's the combination of both our skill sets. I'm the lead designer, focusing solely on the aesthetics of the websites and turning the client’s ideas into reality. Jonathan, the developer, builds the website in a systematic way to ensure user functionality is maintained throughout. This partnership enables faster turnaround of projects which helps to keep the clients happy.
We're always open to the client's input on our designs and work together as team to come up with the end solution. Testament to the success of this process is the Thrifty Gobbler website which was shortlisted for the prestigious Website of the Year 2009 Award by the Good Web Guide.
Why would you like to base yourselves in amongst the Leeds creative & digital sector?
Having both studied in Leeds and remained locally, it's turned into our adopted home. We still have a lot of friends in Leeds working for top agencies within the city. All of us catch up together and bounce creative ideas off one another over a beer.
When does the business officially launch?
We've been trading as a part time operation, working evening and weekends over the last 12 months. We officially launch as a full time venture on March 1st 2010 but have been too busy to organise a launch event. When we finally get around to organising a shindig, Creative Boom will definitely be on the guest list!
What projects do you currently have on?
Where do we start?! We are not tied to a niche market, we service a variety of sectors. Live projects include building a platform for a Nottingham based financial services company as well as developing a website for a national theatre company. We're also preparing for an upcoming pitch to win a University website tender – fingers crossed! In addition to our workload, we are spending most of our time promoting the business and spreading the word about Class Creative.
What’s currently inspiring you?
There's some great creative talent in Leeds. Ripe Design and The Works are just two Leeds agencies we really like. Ripe Design started over a decade ago in a loft, and now they have a London and Cape Town office boasting clients such as Apple, BMW and Orange.
Where do you see Class Creative going from here?
We recently hired the services of a film guy who adds another dimension to our websites - it's turning out to be quite popular with clients. Websites are evolving overall and can see both web video and mobile applications being a big thing for Class Creative this year!
...and in the long term?
Who knows?! At the moment we feel fortunate to be doing something we both thoroughly enjoy. We will keep promoting the business and more importantly, keep the clients happy -Â I think we'll be ok!
