Jasmine Gauthier
In her work Jasmine uses photography to blend fiction and reality, creating her own narratives by taking real life experiences as inspiration. Jasmine was brought up all over the world so being surrounded by such a diverse range of people gave her a fascination in human interactions which feeds directly into her work.
She is now based in England where after studying at Chelsea College of Art & Design, she has gone on to study BA Photography at London College of Communication. In her series Shatter, she collaborates ongoingly with a friend where they look at the years of a friend's daily struggle to overcome Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Milk became a paradoxical metaphor for the comfort and also the suffocation of her domestic environment.
Her Family Fiction series is similar in approach as she creates narratives using family members to play parts of a larger underlying story. It looks at the relationship family portraits have with documentary/vernacular photography as well as staged/tableau photography. Her recent work-in-progress is the beginning of a study on pregnancy and motherhood, looking at the anticipation and fears that come at this point in many women's lives. This is continually updated on her blog as well as many of her thoughts on art, photography and inspiration.
