Raga Jyoti: The Indian Classical Music Ensemble presents DIVINITY

DIVINITY mixes Western instrumentation with Indian classical music to create a matchless sound. Striking, spiritual compositions are blended with video projection to evoke and illustrate aspects of India and Indian cultural life.

Performed by a forty-strong ensemble in traditional Indian style, the concert features specially devised choral arrangements, which seamlessly blend Indian and Western instruments to create a unique sound. Traditional Indian instruments including the Tabla, Pakhawaj, Sitar, Veena, Bansuri (Bamboo flute) and Santoor feature alongside their classical Western counterparts such as the cello, violin, viola and flute. The concert results from collaboration between Indian musicians of the Raga Jyoti and Western musicians from the Halle Youth Ensembles.

Rakesh Joshi is the leader of the Raga Jyoti ensemble and composed DIVINITY. He is a world renowned Musician. His acclaimed understanding and illustration of the different styles of Indian Classical Music (Raga) and how they arouse different feelings help him in the endeavour to create music that can enhance the mind, body and soul. The Musicians, including those from the Halle Youth Ensembles, use no sheet music during DIVINITY, to allow them to wholly immerse themselves in and focus on the sound they are creating as part of the ensemble.

Suitable for the whole family, DIVINITY promises a sublime and transporting evening of music. The piece draws on Sanskrit and Veda teachings and the ideas for the music comes from Hinduism. DIVINITY is for everyone who can appreciate the beauty of music.
