Middleton Railway – Living History

Middleton Railway -Sir Berkley Leeds

This picture is of the steam locomotive on the rail tracks just outside the Engine House at the Middleton Railway, Hunslet.

Last week, Sir Berkley locomotive reopened the world’s oldest continuously working railway for the 2010 season in Leeds.

Middleton Railway was the first standard gauge railway to be run entirely by volunteers when they took over the running of the railway in 1960.

Today the railway is a heritage railway running passenger trips by either steam or diesel powered locomotives. The journey from the museum’s Moor Road station to Park Halt in Middleton Park takes around 10 minutes.

Middleton Railway is just south of Leeds city centre in Hunslet. Address: The Station, Moor Road, Hunslet, Leeds LS10 2JQ. Telephone: 0113 271 0320.
