Yohan Agelou

Yohan is a young London Artist who has exhibited through the bohemian like of the Oubliette in a base in Soho London, his inspiration comes from the Surrealist Automatism movement including colour use with acrylic, ink, and house paints. The Accidental Series that was produced in a year and only recently finished follow the idea that creativity is hand in hand with the subconscious and that "random" outcomes are actually guided by your mind and bring about pure repressed outcomes/feelings.

When looking at his Artworks he was surprised by the result of asking random people - some art inclined and some not, three questions- what do you see physically? e.g an eye, a man, a line, movement etc... What do you see emotionally- from the movement/colours? From those two things what do you think the concept could be for you? e.g New beginning, Peace etc. When it came to concept all the answers were very similar for every piece- which lends itself to the practice that automatism does vocalize a direct concept that even the artist may not be aware he is exploring/ part of in that creative time, but which a viewer can work his way too quite easily.

Automatism for the viewer is more about working to understand the concept or idea rather than an eye-pleasing image. Currently based in London, Yohan is working on different projects and making sure to make the most of his youth and creative experiments.
