Vicky Croydon

Vicky Croydon is a surface pattern designer and illustrator from the UK. She graduated in 2005 from the Arts Institute at Bournemouth with Illustration BA (Hons) and returned to her home in the Midlands, where she worked in-house for over 5 years creating stationery and craft products for a successful and long established high street supplier.

The technique she uses to design always begins with a fine-liner pen drawing, often with intricate, decorative detail, which is scanned into Photoshop or Illustrator for editing and colouring. She is inspired by the ornamental motifs of ancient family crests, tattoo compositions, as well as the flowing natural forms of flowers and animals, which she combines and reinterprets into modern motifs. Vicky has kept chickens for the past two years (including a very noisy cockerel!) and this appears to have sparked a particular appreciation of birds, which now often also feature in her designs.

Vicky loves to work with products keeping constantly up to date with trends and trend prediction to create patterns and design for everything from bags to greeting cards. Her designs have been sold in the UK high street and worldwide, but she is always looking for her next design challenge! More of Vicky's work can be seen on her website or blog.
