Illustrator Katherine Coulton

Katherine Coulton specialises in illustration using a mix of pencils, charcoal, printmaking and Photoshop - producing traditional illustrations with a contemporary feel. She likes drawing quiet moments and values attention-to-detail, always striving to create images which are both strange and beautiful.

She is inspired by the greats from all ages, from Honoré Daumier to Maurice Sendak and has a growing collection of picturebooks. An obsession with Lord of the Rings and traditional folktales inform her drawings, which frequently contain mountainous landscapes and unusual characters.

She is currently based all over the country while working on various children's books. When she isn't sketching she likes to play the banjo, eat cake and listen to folk music very quietly.
